Being an exchange student at HCA

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been a school year already. Last September, the 12th to be exact, was my first day of German school. I had a month-long German course under my belt and absolutely no idea of what to expect. Walking in the school I was scared and nervous. But those feelings quickly melted away as I was shown to class 11B.  Somehow I felt at ease. I quickly took the first seat available and said hi for the first time to my great friend Nikita. We sat in front of Konstantin and Patrick (my other great friends). Then Herr Schienle walked in and introduced me to the class. I would be lying if I said I remembered more because it honestly went by in a flash.

I’ve learned a lot in the past year and school has been a large part of that. There’s just no other way to say it: German school is extremely different. I am happy to say, though, I feel at home in HCA Gymnasium. My experience with the teachers and staff has been nothing less than spectacular. From exchanging competitive math questions with Herr Schienle to talking about quantum physics with Frau Guist to going and visiting museums in Munich with Herr Witt and some other students. I can’t say I have any complaints. I am so thankful to my 11th grade class, my amazing teachers, and Herr Witt for being understanding and willing to show some German culture to an “ami”. I’ve had an amazing time, I will undoubtedly remember my year at HCA.
